Sally's Classes
Sally Stanhope grew up in Atlanta attending camps and classes at Spruill. Teaching summer camp at Spruill convinced her to make education her vocation. After graduating magna cum laude from Davidson College, she joined Teach for America and taught elementary Special Education and fourth grade for three years.
Stanhope then went on to become a secondary humanities teacher and earn a Master of Arts from Georgia State University. She has published numerous articles and taught a variety of humanities classes that have ranged from standard curricula to courses she designed herself. Additionally, she has served in a variety of administrative roles including Academic Coach, Class Dean, and Service Learning Coordinator.
Stanhope believes that visual art instruction should be an interdisciplinary learning and communication tool. During 15 years of teaching, she has used art projects to teach an expansive array of standards from paragraph organization to imperialism. She also strives to infuse visual art into all aspects of life-interior decor, social events, celebrations, community engagement, etc.
In her art classes, Stanhope inspires students' inborn creativity and helps them share their perspective of the world using a range of media and techniques.
