In this two day hands-on workshop we will learn ways to create rustic and organic forms on and off the wheel. We will start with making faceted yunomis and explore different ways to create rustic surfaces using slips, dry clays and sodium silicate. We will make bowls and plates with organic edges and also delve into kurinuki carving to make asymmetrical pieces like ikebana vases and rock bowls. We will discuss glazing techniques that would help enhance the rustic look in cone 6 oxidation. Previous wheel and/or handbuilding experience is required for this workshop. All clay and tools will be provided. However, feel free to bring your own clay tools if you'd like.
