We all played with markers as children, but did you know that markers are a serious art medium? In this class, the goal is for you develop into the best artist you can be. Here you will have the freedom to draw in your unique and individual style while learning various marker techniques along the way. Gentle constructive criticism will help you grow as an artist and art viewer. Every session the instructor will provide a subject/still life/photo, or you can supply your own. Some of the techniques you may be introduced to are: airbrushing, alcohol spraying, blending, farkles, incorporating mixed media, laying color fields, masking, overcoating, shading, wet-coat blending, and more. Let's make magic with markers together!

Markers are included in the course fee. See for a list of other supplies you will need to bring to class.

I've spent the majority of my life in the Atlanta Metro area. One of my earliest memories is seeing the King Tutankhamun exhibit when it toured the U.S. back in the eighties. I have enjoyed art all of my life, and I love traveling to paint and see the works of other artists. Right now, my goal is to paint at McMurdo research station in Antarctica.

I graduated from Georgia College & State University with an undergraduate degree in art in 2003 and a master's degree in secondary education in 2008. Now I'm combining my two loves, teaching and art, by becoming an instructor at Spruill in 2022.

I'm a colorist, and I'm primarily interested in vibrancy of hue and texture. I work in a number of different mediums including: watercolor, acrylic, alcohol markers, oils, pastels, and more. I like to explore and mix mediums as well. My favorite subjects are birds and flowers. My favorite artist is Eugene Delacroix, a 19th century French romanticist painter.

You can see more of my art on Instagram: @kristincomptonpaints on Instagram

Fun fact about me: I studied watercolors in Paris, France during university.
