We all played with markers as children, but did you know that markers are a serious art medium? Here the goal is for you to learn basic alcohol marker techniques. Some of the techniques you may be introduced to are: airbrushing, alcohol spraying, blending, farkles, incorporating mixed media, laying color fields, masking, overcoating, shading, wet-coat blending, and more. Let’s make magic with markers together! Materials are included in the cost of the class; however, there is a supply list if you would like to bring your own materials. There will be a one-hour break for lunch (12:00-1:00pm).

Kristin's Classes

I've spent the majority of my life in the Atlanta Metro area. One of my earliest memories is seeing the King Tutankhamun exhibit when it toured the U.S. back in the eighties. I have enjoyed art all of my life, and I love traveling to paint and see the works of other artists. Right now, my goal is to paint at McMurdo research station in Antarctica.

I graduated from Georgia College & State University with an undergraduate degree in art in 2003 and a master's degree in secondary education in 2008. Now I'm combining my two loves, teaching and art, by becoming an instructor at Spruill in 2022.

I'm a colorist, and I'm primarily interested in vibrancy of hue and texture. I work in a number of different mediums including: watercolor, acrylic, alcohol markers, oils, pastels, and more. I like to explore and mix mediums as well. My favorite subjects are birds and flowers. My favorite artist is Eugene Delacroix, a 19th century French romanticist painter.

You can see more of my art on Instagram: @kristincomptonpaints on Instagram

Fun fact about me: I studied watercolors in Paris, France during university.
