Attendees will learn the basics on how to paint a landscape in oils or acrylics chosen by the instructor. After a session of drawing fundamentals, students learn the fundamentals of composition, value and color as they compose their landscape painting. Learn some tricks to making your landscapes better! Instruction will also include some overview in mixing paints, using brushes, mediums, and most importantly, having fun!
Required supplies are oil or acrylic paints 2.0oz tubes. Recommended colors Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Permanent Green, Sap Green, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Phthalo Blue, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Paynes Grey, Ivory Black and large tube of Titanium White. For oils, please bring a container of odorless turpentine and a rag, bring a jar with lid to hold water or turpentine to clean brushes. One 11” x 14” and one 12” x12” stretched canvases or canvas boards. Selection of flat brushes for either oil or acrylics are required in these sizes, ¼”, ½”, and 1”. A palette knife and wax disposable paper palette pad. Feel free to bring any additional supplies you would like to use.

David's Classes
We are excited to introduce David Jackson as a new instructor at the Spruill Center for the Arts! David is a professional artist and an art instructor who enjoys inspiring his students to create art and have fun. He prides himself on focusing on each of his student's artistic goals and then matches instruction to help students achieve them.
David works mainly in the Classical Realism style and is focused on the traditional subject matters of landscape, still life, and portraiture. He has produced works in many different mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, graphite and pen and ink. His work has gained him numerous awards including a recognition in Artist magazine. He has been in juried exhibitions locally and nationally and his work is in both private and university collections. David has been represented by several galleries in the Atlanta area including the Lagerquist Gallery. David has worked with multiple comic publishers around the globe creating sequential art for numerous story genres. From teaching the basics of drawing comics to younger students to a more in-depth dive into sequential art for older students, David enjoys guiding his students through the art of making comics.
