In this 5-session Learning Lab, we will practice drawing with the world's oldest medium - charcoal - and learn why it's still a beautiful and dramatic way to portray subjects like animals, abstracts, and the human figure. New to charcoal, or drawing? No problem! A mixed intro and expert workshop for all levels of artists. Learn or sharpen your skills at making compositional choices and defining forms with shading, shadows, and light. Demonstrations throughout will illustrate a variety of expressive charcoal drawing techniques to incorporate painterly aesthetics and unique textures. Explore creating drama and depth, how to subtly direct the viewer's eye to the focal point, and how to add pops of color! All materials- compressed and vine charcoal, charcoal pencils, pastels, paper, boards, and more- will be provided.
