Julie's Classes

Julie's interest in ceramics began in the late 1970s when she was introduced to clay through a Parks and Recreation course using a kick wheel. This initial exposure sparked a desire to explore ceramics later in adulthood.

In 2001, she ?nally had time to pursue ceramics and discovered her passion for clay. With decades of experience, she has developed a deep understanding of ceramic techniques and materials. Julie's teaching style is a structured approach, focusing on form and function, as well as imparting knowledge on how to repair pieces when things go wrong.

Nothing makes her prouder than seeing her students' faces light up when they receive a piece of their work they love. In ceramics, many things can go wrong at each step of the process. Julie's famous motto is to "practice detachment." She believes setting realistic expectations from the start allows students to explore freely without the harsh sting of disappointment when things don't go as planned. It's all part of the fun! She celebrates successes and discusses failures with her students, viewing both as integral to the joy of learning in the ever-evolving medium of clay.
