HOLIDAY INDIGO SHIBORI AND FUROSHIKI WRAPPING

Come discover the world of shibori resist combined with the magic of indigo dyeing to create beautiful large 100% cotton "bandanas" that are beautiful practical gifts and can also be used to wrap holiday gifts too! Students will have the opportunity to learn several different ways to create striking patterns in white using the fabric combined with folding, stitching, wood clamping, and wrapping then dip-dyeing in a traditional indigo vat for a rich blue contrast. The reduction strikes and transforms after the fabric is removed from the vat and exposed to oxygen. Saturday we will be dyeing up to 8 bandanas. Then Sunday we will do the final rinse, iron and learn about furoshiki, japanese wrapping cloths. Students will have the opportunity to add embellishments like beading, stitching, and ribbons!
We will take a lunch break both days.
