Who doesn’t love texture on metal? Roller printing, hammering, chasing, etching, reticulation…these are all delicious ways to add interest to your designs. But then you will need to know some best practices, tips and tricks for incorporating these textures into your work. Broaden your design vocabulary, learn how to properly use the rolling mill, explore some different texturing techniques, while discovering ways to avoid common soldering disasters. We will also touch on cold connections that may be helpful in some situations, and the use of oxidizing agents to enhance texture. This is an intermediate level class. Basic knowledge of soldering and fabrication required. Supplies needed will depend on student-driven projects. Please bring something you are working on to the first session. PREREQUISITE: Two Beginning Jewelry and Metalsmithing classes at the Spruill Center for the Arts, or by permission of the instructor.
