BASIC TORCH AND SOLDERING FUNDAMENTALS

This course covers basic air/acetylene torch use in the jewelry studio including, annealing, soldering techniques and situations, problem solving, set up, and safety. Students will focus on techniques to improve their skills and confidence at the soldering bench. There is no project, but students should bring metal scraps and leftovers to use for practice, to include silver and copper sheet and wire. This course is a good intensive for new jewelry makers, and a great review and immersion for those that have some experience. PREREQUISITE: At least One (1) Beginning Jewelry and Metalsmithing class at the Spruill Center for the Arts. Supply List available at www.spruillarts.org.
