If you want beautiful, sensitive paintings but find oil painting complicated or overwhelming, this class is for you! Learn to use the strengths of a monochromatic block-in to help you simplify your approach and lead you to artistic results. Many monochromatic block-ins make beautiful completed works of art by themselves! This method of beginning a painting is ideal for beginners to intermediates, or anyone wishing to learn how to approach a realistic or representational style. Students will learn the primary components of any painting and how to simplify their approach to set themselves up for success. The class will include a demonstration and lecture by the instructor as well as an opportunity for the students to create their own monochromatic block-ins while painting from life. Students may progress forward to learn how to transition from a block-in to a completed painting, as class time allows. This class is perfect for getting started in oil or for further refining your painting skills. It's suitable as a stand-alone class or, for more ways to approach oil painting with greater success, it can be taken in conjunction with these other classes available this quarter: Oil Painting: An Easy Beginning for Confident Painting! -The Line & Mass Block-In, AND/OR Oil Painting: Start Well, End Well! - The Full Color Block-In.
