INTRODUCTION TO BOOK BINDING: CHAIN & ALPHA STITCH BINDINGS

There are no scheduled sessions at this time. Sign up to be notified when this course is available.

Welcome to an Introduction to Bookbinding. You will learn how to construct 2 different styles of books using decorative bindings. The first is a chain stitch, a basic link stitch method that can be used for multiple decorative binding displays, like the tree stitch. The second will be the alpha stitch in a case bound cover. This is a modified version of the chain stitch, incorporating multiple signatures at once, and using a case bound cover for added support. By the end of class, you will have learned about the tools, parts of the book, some history, and the knowledge to continue making books of your own. A Materials Kit Fee of $20 PAYABLE TO INSTRUCTOR AT CLASS provides the materials needed. Students need to supply their own mechanical pencil and way to take notes. All other tools are supplied for use, or you may bring your own tools based on the ADDITIONAL TOOLS section in the Supply List. See spruillarts.org for a list of supplies needed for this workshop.
