This course is an introduction to glass beadmaking using flameworking techniques on an oxygen/propane torch. Each class will start with a lecture/demo and then the students will work hands-on to practice making beads. We will start by covering torch and beadmaking basics. We will then explore various beginning techniques including controlling bead shape, making and using stringers, applying surface treatments and the myriad of way to use dots. We use soft glass in the class (COE 104). Glass will be available for purchase in the classroom - actual cost will depend on the number of beads made and the average cost runs $15 to $30 per quarter. The class is held in a studio setting with other beginner students. Students should wear natural fiber clothing with long sleeves and must be 18 or older. This class is not for pregnant women.
