Learn the fundamentals of oil painting using a traditional method of starting with an underpainting as well as alla prima (direct) painting techniques. You will learn how to choose different painting mediums such as oils and liquin, as well as learn about brushes and how to choose the best brush for the task and style you desire to achieve. Color mixing will be demonstrated using alla prima, glazing and scumbling techniques. Students will learn how to use each technique to achieve their creative goals. We will discuss and demonstrate how surface quality effects paint and how you can use it to enhance your paintings. Students will work on a 9” x 12” canvas board to create a loose monotone or duotone painting created from a photograph. Feel free to bring a lunch or snack.
