In this class we’ll use the figure as a starting point for telling stories. Unlike an illustration, which is a drawing meant to accompany the written word, a narrative drawing tells a story without words. We'll begin with sketches, pushing our technical abilities, then use those sketches as the basis for larger works. We'll try out different drawing techniques and materials and different ways of approaching storytelling. Working with narrative, it’s easy to remember that art is a type of play. In his artwork, and in his teaching, Ian has one foot in tradition and one in innovation. He wants to help you to create the best work you can, and to help you find your unique creative voice. Materials for this workshop are included in the registration fee.
